Beni: Medical Supplies Supported by Direct Relief Arrive to Strengthen the Health Response

Beni, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Humanitarian Action for Africa (HAA) has received a significant shipment of medicines and medical supplies in Beni, delivered with the support of Direct Relief. The delivery marks an important step in ongoing efforts to strengthen preparedness for and response to Ebola virus disease in the Beni Health Zone, North Kivu.

The arrival of these supplies follows the announcement made in August 2026 and is intended to strengthen the capacity of health actors to address priority health needs, in a context where preparedness, the availability of medical resources and community protection remain essential.

Essential Supplies to Support Health Teams

The shipment is part of the material assistance provided by Direct Relief to HAA. It includes medicines and medical supplies intended to support health response efforts on the ground.

These resources will help strengthen the capacity to carry out priority health activities, complementing ongoing efforts by local actors to prevent risks, protect communities and respond to healthcare needs.

The availability of appropriate supplies is an important component of health emergency preparedness. It must be accompanied by effective coordination, appropriate infection prevention and control practices, and close collaboration with communities and health actors.

Combining Medical Resources with Community Engagement

HAA’s intervention in Beni extends beyond the provision of medical supplies. It also includes risk communication and community engagement activities aimed at improving access to reliable information and encouraging behaviours that help protect public health.

Community engagement activities address key topics, including recognising the signs and symptoms of Ebola, promptly reporting suspected cases, hand hygiene, safe and dignified burials, and preventing rumours and misinformation.

By combining health preparedness efforts with community engagement, HAA aims to contribute to a response that is better adapted to local realities, where communities are informed, heard and involved in prevention efforts.

A Partnership in Support of Beni’s Communities

The receipt of these supplies highlights the importance of partnerships that mobilise essential resources and support organisations working on the ground.

HAA extends its sincere appreciation to Direct Relief for its support for this initiative and its contribution to efforts to strengthen health preparedness and response in Beni.

For Humanitarian Action for Africa, this milestone reflects an ongoing commitment to supporting prevention efforts, strengthening local capacities and helping protect communities against health emergencies.

Together, HAA and its partners continue working to strengthen health preparedness and help protect lives in Beni, North Kivu.
